View Full Version : Oscar - best picture
I think FrostNixon was a better movie than Slumdog. I wonder if it could be a longshot to win the best picture Oscar. Probably unlikely but not impossible.
If Don King produced it I would bet the farm - but my farm is just 40 square feet of garden. :D

I will wait for these movies to come out on Netflix. I wife and I quit going to the movie theater.. There are just too many rude people, people who wear strong perfumes or colognes, people who talk, too crowded, uncomfortable seats, sound that sucks, people needing to pass in front of me during the movie, people kicking the back of my chair, people rattling popcorn bags, cant pause the movie to go relieve yourself, cant talk to your wife, popcorn that costs six bucks...etc etc. There might as well be a bunch of homeless people in the theater with me...it would not be a whole lot different.
The last time my wife and I went it was such a miserable experience we walked out about 1/3 of the way into the film. We decided that we would never again go to the movie theater only to pay to suffer through a film. People no longer know how to behave civilly in public, especially in movie theaters...its all about "me" ...and fuck you if you don't like my behavior. "I'm going to talk on my cell phone in the restaurant if I please and I could care less if you don't my loud phone conversation being forced upon you."...seems to be the prevailing attitude now.
Besides, I have a pretty decent home theater so why bother? Considering the alternative, I have the patience the patience to wait 4-6 months for a movie to come out on Bluray and then rent it.
I never watch the Academy Awards. I grew tired of the leftist speeches years ago. Its nothing more than self-promotion of the left leaning film industry anyways. I could care less which personalities win. A film is either worth watching or its not. Thats all I need to know.
Our society is so celebrity obsessed. Thats not a healthy thing. People need to start becoming a little more obsessed with the welfare of their own family.
Possibly do it like I do. Still in the theater but after it's been out a while. My girlfriend has a big purse so the popcorn and sodas fit nicely. Get there around noon or before to get a nice discount. I figure there were less than 15 people in the whole theater when I saw slumdog last week.
I don't blame you for waiting but you can have your cake and eat it too for 2 people at 5 to 10 bucks total.
If you can stay awake you can time it to walk into another movie but I dont.
The bootleg copies at home please me but the girlfriend can only be pushed so much. ;)

cologne and perfume, rattling popcorn?
I bet you were the guy sitting behind me and my family when we went to watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on opening night in a completely sold out theatre....... some guy started bitching he couldnt hear them talking because my son was rattling his popcorn bag.
I of course being the smart ass I am, turned and said.. oh you can understand Chinese? (it's a sub-titled movie)
No offense David, but you describe yourself like a real intolerant pain in the ass. ..people like you describe yourself as I have encoutered in real life, are so uptight it's laughable...
you wouldn't survive 5 minutes in my house without having a nervous breakdown... three dogs, two kids running around, grandkids crawling around, a noisy parrot and either Rock and roll or Salsa blasting on the stereo.. our older kids and thier friends and familes coming and going..smells of spicy food cooking, lots of hugs and kisses, even from the puppy, loud converations in English and Spanish and Spanglish even, my son practicing piano in one room while my daughter is singing or playing guitar in the other, or all of us playing guitar hero world tour on wii (guitar,vocals,bass,drums)... while the bird is imitating everything he hears.. but much louder.. . you'd have a seizure on the spot... and that's just everyday.. come to a party at my house and you'd go into full blown cardio-pulmonary arrest...
Maybe that's the big diference between you and I, David..... I like people including noisy people, people wearing perfume, people rattling thier pocorn. I dont want to live in some bubble locked up in my house devoid of the rest of the world because they arent just like me or have little ideosyncricies..... I could care less if people talk on thier cell phones or make a little noise.. you see I actually love people...and life and all the noise and unexpected distractions life brings...
You know what my husbands theory is with people wound so tight every little thing like that bothers them? He says they aren't getting any sex...
We know each other so well in our marriage when someone starts getting all bent out of shape by silly things like that we just give each other the look.. and laugh... "the poor guy/gal aint gettin none look", that is.;)

Slumdog will take it... it's a GREAT movie. Mickey Roarke will take best actor for The Wrestler and Kate Winslet best actress for The Reader.

I agree, I just feel more comfortable watching movies at home. I can sit in a comfy seat or lay on the couch or on the floor make my own food is cheaper and why wast money if you can watch it cheaper and more comfortably.
I also agree with you on the celebrity awards thing. To me they have these things just to have their egos stroked. I think the money they make is enough of an award and they can do without a statue and all the hype that comes with it.
Slumdog will probably win but if you wanted to watch a movie again it is not tops on the list.

Now it makes sense, you must have been that bitch in the theater that caked on the perfume and who could not stop talking to her family. Sorry, but to me that is rude and intolerable. You are in the majority though...you are amongst the majority who do not give a fuck about anyone else when you go out in public. I bet you have no problem whipping out your cell phone in nice restaurants and forcing all the tables around you to have to listen to your phone call. Fuck you and other rude people like you....this is why my wife and I do not go out as often anymore. We grew tired of impolite self-centered assholes like YOU!

man... you are one tightass frustrated angry human being...
it must really suck to be you...
(starting to think my husband's theory may be right) ;)
and for the record I never use my cell phone in a restaurant... but I dont sweat the small stuff in life and those types of behaviors in others... just aren't that important to me... for instance when a clerk in a store is a little bit rude to me.. I say to myself... "give the guy a break, he could be having the worse day of his life" and smile and go about my business... I dont pretend to know what motivates others to do what they do.. and dont often pass judgement on them either... I try basically to get along with people... I have no enemies.. hate no one ... and basically like people in general..
David, do you have any children?
if you don't that might explain alot... I have found in my own life experience that people that never experience the giving of true un-conditional love, altruistic love are often quite intolerant of others.. and often selfish.. . that kind of love isnt between a husband and wife... marriage is conditional... if one partner in that breaks the contract with a serious enough offense the love ceases to exist... a love for a child however IMO is the only true unconditional love, altruistic love in the human experience... and many people that don't get to experience that... have anger management and tolerance issues... this isn't universall. I have met childless people who have been able to leanr to love like this.. and ceritainly know plenty of people with children who are intolerant too... it def. doesnt go the other way... . but more often then not... childless people I have encountered... are well... selfish.. and I believe this is because they have never really learned what it is like to love something unconditionally more then themselves...

Slumdog took 8 total oscars!! Yay! ... bollywood takes hollywood!!! ... it was great.. did you see it Bob?
ha ha I was wrong about Roarke though... Penn's acceptance speech was great. "you are a bunch of homo commies"... ha ha! ..I haven't seen Milk though yet,,, but Penn was long overdue for an Oscar.
and Kate deserved hers.. too in the Reader... she is as very gracious talented lady.
I was watching Patton again. I saw some parts.
Guess I will watch Milk next. Slumdog was a movie that I would not watch twice. Button does not sound like a move that I would want to pay to watch.

Label me however you want. All you will ever know is what you read through a forum. I would not want to be in your shoes, an angry feminist liberal with no sense of humor...even worse, be in your husbands shoes married to you. It sounds to me like you married a girly-man similar to Alan Alda or Woody Allan..minus the intellectual aspect of course because no smart man would marry someone whose personality resembles that a less wrinkled Patricia Ireland. A man with a quasi-male personality is the only type man that would be able to wake up in the same bed with you. Poor guy.
I have said before whether or not I have a child. Its really none of your business.
I was speaking primarily of rudeness in public. You never experience this? You dont think people overall are ruder now? Thats because you are part of the problem and simply do not recognize it.
David-M all you have done is to prove that you are a first class asshole. Go reread the Turner diaries.

I didnt label you... I asked you if you have children... you still didnt answer...
all I said.. if you didnt have children that might explain how you are so easily annoyed with people in general from at the movies to those opposing your political views on a website...
Actually my husband is a street wise, 6'4 1/2, 210 lb muscular atheletic Puerto Rican... you would probably cross the street to avoid passing him out of fear for his size and stature.. and maybe his race too ;)..... he is interested in Boxing, Baseball, Car Racing and Action movies...he is a good cook though and is very good to his children (and his wife).. He is completely secure enough in his own being to be able to handle a stong-minded woman without losing any of who he is... he is THE most manly man I know in fact and a lot of that is that he is not a bully at all, yet could still kick your ass if he ever felt those he loved were harmed by you... you wish you could be half the man my husband is...
David you obviously have anger mangement issues seriously... you get too pissed off too much of the time... it's not normal... and certainly not healthy.. nor even productive...
I am 6-4 but just 180lbs. The last person, who was larger than me, made the mistake of getting ready to hit me with his left leg locked straight. That was 2 years ago and I wonder if he is still walking with a problem. ;)

180 is thin for 6'4. You should see boys my daughters have brought home over the years faces when they first meet my husband... he is very big and muscular and that intimidates people sometimes..
My husband looks like a taller, more muscular Barack Obama.. they have very similar facial characteristics and the same coloring.. and almost the exact same big easy smile.
They also have the same demeanor.. always keeping it cool, real and positive, doesnt over-react to anything, but yet very strong and confident. He's a charmer.
