Giving Yahoo a Goose In the Right Direction!
I sent Yahoo this request/suggestion.

With gasoline prices so high walking or riding a bike 3 to 5 miles is often an option. It would be simple to provide walking directions by ignoring one way streets and making the main objective the shortest route to a destination.

Do you think it will fly?

Is the distance you can walk in a few hours really so far that you have to look up directions on Yahoo Maps?

It exists already. In my friends rented Rolls Royce it had GPS that told down to 20 feet before a turn. It even was updated for closed roads. Don’t know what the GPS costs but the car was worth near a half million. He rents them for commercials. If you need to know the system I can ask - but expext to pay out the ass.

I play poker, 2 tournaments, at a bar on Friday evenings. It starts a 7:30 and ends almost midnight. Spending 4 hours in a bar and enjoying it makes driving a no no.

Trip distance: 3.69 miles Driving Time: 7 mins

reversed driving directions

Trip distance: 2.15 miles Driving Time: 8 mins

A mile and 1/2 can get quite sweaty when you're walking.

Growing up in Philly most of the streets were parallel in nature. South NJ doesn't seem to have rhyme nor reason ruling their highway system. One can't always perform the standard two lefts or two rights to return to where you started. The numerous waterways don't help walkers looking for a "direct" route.

The first directions angled away from the destination and went beyond it. Finally a right turn headed back towards the bar's highway. At the highway another right was required for the remaining .4 miles.

A third Trip distance: 2.68 miles Driving Time: 9 mins

I "created" this third route which is more direct than the first but still drives slower than the 3.69 mile route.

Plus I'm not even sure that the 2.15 mile route is the most
direct since it is a "driving" route.

There is no way an army of pedistrains are going to key in the shortest routes

Play poker - come to UB.net and I will take your chips in no limit

There is still much to be desired about the directions you do get from these mapping sites like Google Maps, Mapquest and Yahoo Maps. I have received some pretty crazy assed routes from some of them. I think they need to work on getting the bugs out of the car routes first.

Sorry, I don't have any pretend chips.
