Big Win for the enviornmental lobby (and all of us IMO) Scotus says that the EPA has the right under the clean air act to set standards for carbon emmisions in automobiles.

BRUSSELS, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - The government of Belgium's French-speaking region of Wallonia, which has a population of about 4 million, has approved a tax on barbequing, local media reported.
Experts said that between 50 and 100 grams of CO2, a so-called greenhouse gas, is emitted during barbequing. Beginning June 2007, residents of Wallonia will have to pay 20 euros for a grilling session.
The local authorities plan to monitor compliance with the new tax legislation from helicopters, whose thermal sensors will detect burning grills.
Scientists believe CO2 emissions are a major cause of global warming.
Global warming will spur more extreme controls on your behavior, no matter how small you make your carbon footprint, it won't be enough to appease these folks...

some additional advice posted from a periodical I read regularly.. "The Yoga Journal"
Think of yourself as one of those tiny points of light Reagan used to refer to or was it Bush Sr.... each of us indivdually CAN make a difference
here goes, I've been trying some of these how about you...
1. Choose more organic foods. organic farming processes let the soil hang on to 15-28% more carbon then traditional methods... plus organic is better tasting and better for you! Just dont go for organic tomatoes at the farmers market, look into organic grains, pasta, cereal and other processed foods. Drikn Organic milk it tastes SOO much better.
2. Dress systainabke, Conventional cotten makes heavy use of fertilizers that emit greenhouse gas. Try organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, linen and silk. Much of yoga wear today is made from these materials.. go Yoga!! They also have natural anti-microbial poroperties.
3. Cool down your laundry. If you wash two loads in cold or warm water rather then hot every week you'll save around 500 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.
4. Get political let your elected officials know the enviornment matters to you. Find out about your reps at vote-smart.org
5. Green your computer. A new electronics rating system is being devekloped to find out more go to epeat.net.
6. Get more earth friendly ideas by checking out treehugger.com provides info on everything from installing solar panels to finding earth friendly carpets.
(I bet a really green home adds purchase appeal in the future too)
7. Switch to wind-generated, solar or earth friednyl electricty. About 1/2 US consumers purchase green power through thier own utility companies. to see whats available in your state visit: www.eere.energy.gov/greenpower/
8, Park you car. Ride a bike or take public transportion instesd. By a more fuel efficient vehicle (I have one now but as my family has grown to include extended members like my father and my step son we need a bigger vehicle I'm looking at the some options for some HYbrid SUV's that actually have comparable milliage to my little 4 cylinder civic.
9. Volunteer your time to organizations that could use your energy and creativity to tackle enviornmental problems. Learn more at www.idealist.org
10. Invest wisely...support companies are working towards sustainability...learn more at ceres.org a national network of investment funds that advance enviornmental stewardship. Learn to make greener purchase in your daily life by checking out the green guide at www.thegreenguide.com

They don't even pasteurize the milk. So how does botulism and E-Coli taste? I would rather buy milk for less than risk puking my guts out in the hospital emergency room.
I can always tell the organic food at Safeway...they don't even need to label it as organic. It costs twice as much, looks like crap and looks like the bugs have already partially eaten the food.

No thanks...I am not interested in dressing like an old hippie. They still make Gunni Sax dresses? Silk?...you have no sympathy for those poor silkworms trapped in their cages? Buy free range silkworms instead. Can vegans wear silk? Can vegan babies drink breast milk? ..I digress.

Sure if you don't mind you're whites looking yellow and grease stains permanently in you're clothes.

I think they already know unless they have been living in a cave.
5. Green your computer. A new electronics rating system is being devekloped to find out more go to epeat.net.
Who needs those fancy SLI graphics cards anyways? I don't mind playing games at 10 FPS in order to save the Earth while I am trying to save the Earth from alien invaders.

Treehugger.com? Nuff said. Hardwood floors look so much better than carpet. Natural carpet...like burlap or cotton? Buahahaha! Try and get the cat pee stain out of that!

Buy wind power and kill more raptors like eagles, red tailed hawks, turkey vultures and peregrine falcons?..ok so the turkey vulture is not a raptor technically. Come to think of it, all raptors do is eat all those organic free range rodents anyway. Good idea...buy wind power and get partially macerated free raptor meat for dinner delivered to the base of your windmill on an almost daily basis. I hear it tastes like chicken. ;)

A hybrid SUV?...kind of an oxymoron isn't it? Take it off road..kill plants, terrorize Bambi and cause erosion....while in the meantime you can feel good about saving the air.
Actually I do hope everyone buys a hybrid...it will drop the demand for gas making it cheaper to drive my politically incorrect 330 HP Crossfire.
9. Volunteer your time to organizations that could use your energy and creativity to tackle enviornmental problems. Learn more at www.idealist.org
Never give to any organization before you check its efficiency. You never know if it is being used to support Al Gore and all his energy inefficient mansions. Mr. Hypocrite himself. Spoken like Dopey Dog on Bugs Bunny..."Buh I is payin' for duh carbon cre-dits"...as he boards his CO2 belching Gulfstream 4 to go do another speech on global warming.

The vast majority of the green mutual funds have terrible returns that don't even beat the S&P 500..it's true. You are better off buying Treasury Bills with a few percent return. Better yet...buy Halliburton HAL and Altria MO (ex Phillip Morris), if you want to make some real dough. At least you liberals can support the government by buying T-bills rather than supporting inherently evil publicly traded corporations.

WRONG
You are speaking about RAW milk. We drink pasturized ORGANIC milk. Two different things you should learn your ass from you elbow... Organic milk is from grass fed cows that the grass wasnt treated with pestisides (land has to be organically tended two for a minimum of 8 years. and the cows weren't shot up with antibiotics and hormones.
I can always tell the organic food at Safeway...they don't even need to label it as organic. It costs twice as much, looks like crap and looks like the bugs have already partially eaten the food.
HUGE misconcenption.
and not even a paritsan one... Dris you try and eat whole foods no? do you agree with this guys discrioption of them?
you can likely find WHOLE organic foods for a fraction of what you pay for PROCESSED non-organic foods. It is much cheaper to buy an organic potato then to buy unhealthy, pestiside full, bad fat full french fries at McDonalds.
people who buy whole foods actually have to prepare then fresh themselves... what a concept absent of a drive through window.
you are really an idiot know that? your response are of a six year old with a temper tantrum.

Sounded more like a response from someone tired of the media and whacko's trying to shove that feel good crap down their throat. If you want to try to save the planet, go right ahead.

Go do you're hippie-chick, feel good, holistic, chakra things in peace heyhey...but don't try to shove you're political activism upon the rest of us.
Red is right...we are tired of hearing this crap. Political activism is everywhere in the left wing media now... from Al Gore's dopey speeches to CNN to Time Magazine to NPR etc. I even read this crap in Scientific American and National Geographic now...the political activism. Even 60 Minutes who used to chase down charlatans who ripped off people, is big into the activism.
Can't anyone say anything anymore without being an activist pushing an agenda?
The American people I predict are going to rebel against the activism that comes at us at all angles 24/7. It's mostly from the left but it is also from the right as well. I get so tired of some group telling me I should be doing this or I should not be doing that.
Get a fucking life activists.... there are way too many of you and the American people as a whole are getting real tired of hearing from you at every waking moment! Take up a hobby other than telling others what to do. You are sounding like a bunch of little dictators.

first off I'm no Hippie. I dont do psycholdelic drugs. I dont do any drugs at all actually.
I wear a business suit 5 days a week and on evenings and the other two days I am in work-out clothes. I dont live in a commune or particpate in free love... I am a married housewife and mother... I go to my kids little league games and track meets and swim meets and yes... soccer games.
But I have matured consiredably in the past several years and in my maturity I have discovered that not only do I have immense personal and family responsbility I have the responsbility of developing my social consciousness.. which is an ever growing journey.
You see I am an optomist, not a pesismist. I have faith in the human spirit and faith in the goodness within all of us. I also see the tremendous potential. This potential is illustrated in something called Moore's Law something you techies might know but can be applied to any science. Our scientic knowledge is doubling every tens years. This is tremendous. We are solving problems and age-old questions of our species. Global warming is just one of them.
Part of raising social consciosness which is a shared consciousness sometimes telling people things they dont want to hear. Like the child telling the parent to quit smoking not only because they love them and dont want to die, but they don't want the ill-effect of thier second hand smoke. I'm not forcing you or anyone to change your carbon footprints. Thats up to you to come to a social transcention about... but beleive you me I care enoguh about my children's future and thier children's future and all the innocent children born into this world's now and in the future I love this beautiful blue marble I live on and want with all my heart generations to come to have it as thier home.... and my quest, my spine, my mantra is to let everyone I come in contact know about about changing thier carbon footprint. That is MY social consciousness. That is my essence. That is who I am. .. sorry for the inconveneice but the children of the future need more then just people like me they need all of us... our collective consciousness.
now excuse me I'm going to go do my morning Yoga Asana's then later on my kids and I are going to a nursery to buy a couple of trees to plant on Earth Day... which happens to be next week by the way.
David, Have a terrific Sunday... Go from selfishness to selflessness and maybe some of the anger that drove your cruel words above will subside...and you can find the kind of happiness doing this brings
Namaste :)
I go to my kids little league games and track meets and swim meets and yes... soccer games.
heyhey is a soccer mom? ...never saw that coming...
Seriously, I guess I am about as concerned about the environment as the average person, and I would probably do more if I was actually convinced that what we do/don't do amounted to a hill of beans. For every study that says we are killing the planet, there is another that says it is a natural phenomena. Who should one believe? Deep down I think most people want to be responsible to the planet and their children who will inevitably inherit what we create, but with so much conflicting information, it is hard to figure out who is right and who isn’t.
