Republicans in last week's elections "did not lose their seats to liberal Democrats," said Rep. Mike Ross, D-Ark. "Republicans lost their seats to Blue Dog Democrats."

"We'll have a lot to say about what passes and what doesn't" when the 110th Congress convenes in January with Democrats in control for the first time in 12 years, said Ross, new communications director for the caucus.

It'll be interesting to see how these Blue Dogs are accepted....they are too far to the right for the Democratic leadership and too far left for the Republican leadership.

It will all depend on how "blue" they really are I guess.

The most troubeling aspect I find about these freshman Congressman is that many of them ran on protectionist platforms. Protectionism has become a bit more accepted.

I just hope that these freshman are a bit more intelligent than that. The last time this country raised significant barriers to trade, it plunged the country into a severe depression for about 6 years.

Protectionism never works.
