I'm Catholic but have no burning desire to see this movie.

Anyway... thought I'd start a topic on it here for those who did see it wanting to share how it was and because I sort of had an experience with it the movie, of sorts, today.

We went to see 50 First Dates. I have a three year old and it was the only movie playing in the 12 theatre cineplex place we went to that I thought my three year old would sit through quitely, which he did because of all the marine animals in it.

Anyway my 3 year old was very well behaved, however 5 very small children ranging in ages from about 2-8 plopped themselves down in the seats next to us and were quite unruly. I'm not too disturbed with children so although I was a little distracted it didnt bother me all that much.

Well when the movie was over... and when we left our theatre these kids were running around the halls like banshees gone wild. My concern was small children being left unattended and what could happen to them so .....I went to find the manager.... just in time to see the parents coming out to claim them up from the theatre that was playing the Passion.

Now how Christian is it to let your children run wild and disturb others????? and what sort of "family" values did these parent have putting thier children in such an unsafe situation?

Go figure.... I guess the religious experince people say they get from seeing the film was more important to them then their own children's safety....

In any event, I'm with you. I've read the book, know the story, so have no inclination to see the movie. I'm not one that gets off on crucifixions, public hangings, executions, et al. If anything, I'll wait till it comes out on DVD and watch it in the agony of my own home.

It looks pretty gruesome to me too. And from what I heard it's not really about what Jesus was trying to tell us... its more about the gore.

It's been well marketed though with all this controvesy.... but that wasn't a big enough selling point for me to spend money on a movie ticket......

I'm looking forward to Harry Potter 3 and seeing it with my kids.....
I'll go to church or private prayer in solitude for religion... and leave the silver screen for entertainment.

I haven't seen it, but my brother saw it a few days ago and said he didn't recommend it. He said the violence was overdone simply for violence's sake.

Christanity and violence seem to go together ;)

I don't know if I want to see it. I know how it ends!

I hear it's not exactly a good date movie.

:p

When I first heard about the movie, as a history buff, and especially one who's interested in Ancient history, I was really interested in hearing the attempts at Aramaic, Latin, Greek, or whatever all is in the movie. I thought that would have been interesting enough to attend. But everyone sounds so..."affected"! I don't like movies as it is, but I don't really think I have the stomach for what I've heard about.

Besides, I went to Catholic school, I paid my dues! No mas! :p

I find it hilarious that the Passion gets knocked off the top box office spot by "Dawn of the Dead" and Dawn gets knocked off by "Scooby Doo". lol

I saw the movie, and although it was more violent than I have ever seen, it still was good. Mel just wanted people to see what torture Jesus went through during his last 12 hrs alive.

If I was Mel Gibson, I would send at least a "Thank You" card to the leader of ADL, a HATE organisation, Mr. Foxman, for very good, FREE promotion of this movie.
