Do you think that this has had any long lasting negative effects on our society, especially ones on people that are considered 'ugly'?
I remember watching the Wizard of Oz and was shocked when I heard the line "only bad witches are ugly" - Good witch of the North.
On that note the ugliest person I can imagine is Ann Coulter..

In all of our children books, the bad witch or bad wizard is always ugly.
One thing I have noticed is that marriages between people that are not beautiful last while those with at least one exceptionally good looking partner rarely last - if both are beautiful they never last.

interesting.....perhaps we need to find Grape to do us another little research for us. ;)
It also makes me feel better because I know for a fact that I was much better looking that all of my ex's. :D

LOL, you're right.
I said I was sorry and still offered to be friends!
Reminds me of someone showing me a picture of his future wife at work. My comment was "Who is getting the best end of the deal?"

common now.....
are you saying that the better looking one is the usually the bad one?
On a scale of one to ten - What is your IQ?

I do not believe in tests; I think they are bias based on who wrote them. Beauty is the same as well but alittle different.
Every heard of the 1:1.8 theory (not sure on the exact number ratio)?? It explains beauty.
Common - you have ten fingers - estimate. :D
Beauty cannot be defined 100% but ugly is fairly easy to see.
While ugly cannot be nexused with bad or good, beauty has a power that power can be tempting to abuse.

Here is something interesting for you to read or research.
Have you ever heard of the Golden Ratio of Nature?
Here are some links to start with:

What a roundabout way of proving that symmetry is beautiful to a biped. :)

What I found interesting was the point that this was long ago one of the best kept secrets in architecture as it can be used to appeal to the human eye.
Later, Leonardo da Vinci painted Mona Lisa's face to fit perfectly into a golden rectangle, and structured the rest of the painting around similar rectangles. Mozart divided a striking number of his sonatas into two parts whose lengths reflect the golden ratio, though there is much debate about whether he was conscious of this. In more modern times, Hungarian composer Bela Bartok and French architect Le Corbusier purposefully incorporated the golden ratio into their work.
Even today, the golden ratio is in human-made objects all around us. Look at almost any Christian cross; the ratio of the vertical part to the horizontal is the golden ratio. To find a golden rectangle, you need to look no further than the credit cards in your wallet.

It was not too many years ago that we saw facial disorders or deformity as a curse of being evil, or being punished by a greater power for our internal sin. On top of this, I think that much of our children literature still sings these tunes of evil being associated with ugliness.
In fact, I think there are obvious reasons we can see that more sucessful people are more beautiful. It certainly helps within getting a job or how people in the office treats you, as it also conditions a persons character and how they perceive themselves as well as their self-confidence
It is sad that less than 10% of the people will fit the profile of beauty based on the math while the architecture tricks are simply learned.

It's a disclaimer so that the ugly people won't rally together to reject such a theory that attacks them personally.
many ugly people make the difference up by being better people and reap the rewards of longer term friendships.
