Sorry guys, this fourm is kinda dead, I see. I've been pretty tied up with pcmech lately. Now that I took both it and max3d back from eFront, the workload shot up. I'm implementing a database backend for the site, and its a lot of work (on top of school).

Anyway, am I the only one kinda pissed about Congress spending two weeks on the McCain-Feingold bill? The bill is unconstitutional, and they're spending their time on THAT instead of the tax cut and budget, which I find MUCH more important given the economy.

I heard somewhere that campaign finance reform isn't even on the radar for most people in this country. So, why bother? Especially now.

It's simple. If the press pushes for restrictive campaign financing, the press increases its power to influence the politics of the country. Freedom of speech is very effective if you decide who makes the speeches.

I have thought that McCain was unbalanced. His latest efforts have convinced me that he is.

you're not alone drisley. the repubs should concentrate on dismanteling the power of the federal government, not pushing through more restrictions on americans.

if this become law, hopefully the supreme court will strike this bill down ASAP. the sp ct has recently struck down regulations on spending, but upheld regulations on donations, so i'm doubtful that much of this bill will be struck down should it become law. justice thomas was the only judge, IMHO, that doesn't have his head up his ass on this topic. he basically believes that speech should be given as much freedom as possible under the 1st amend, and he wants to eliminate the distinction between commercial and political speech. hopefully, one of the liberal justices or rehnquist will drop dead before they get a chance to rule on this, and maybe bush can get another clarence thomas to the court. (maybe two, three, or four more clarence thomases!)

I have thought that McCain was unbalanced too.

The tax cut will have no affect on the economy. We are in this mess because money was invested unwisely. We need to get people buying again. Interest rate cuts put more money in the pocket of everyone than a tax cut.

If you are working your way up then that trickle down vodoo economics is nothing more than a yellow blinding stream in your face.

As for McCain-Feingold nobody beleives the corrupt system can be fixed. Especially after the election mess.

BTW, I am real busy at a new job too. Large project - no time - web based/SQL ASP script for a major phone Co.
I like networking, data processing, IT management - this programming BITES.

I don't think the tax cut will have a huge impact either. Especially after the Democrats water it down. But, still, it won't have a DIRECT impact. It is mostly a way to get consumer confidence up, to make people THINK the economy is better and thus it will be.

Regardless, though, the Liberal excuse of "it won't help the economy" is no excuse at all. Regardles of that, the truth is that the populace is WAY too over-taxed and we need a tax cut a hell of a lot larger than Bush is doing. The taxes as percentage of GDP is highest ever.

We'll see what happens with McCain-Feingold. IMO, this is not something that can go through except for an amendment to the Constitution, because it is an affront to the 1st amendment.

They need to maybe do regulations to stop politicians from sucking up to donors by way of legislation, but the wrong thing to do is affect the money flowing in. One large problem with this bill is that they basically give in to the fact that polticians are dishonest and say its OK to do legislative favors. Because they don't stop THAT, they say, well, we need to stop the money coming in. Wrong!
