View Full Version : The end of time

I like to ponder that which is infinitely complex and bizzare. for example. the end of time. If you are a scientist this would be when the whole of the universe has all of its matter in one single location, thus creating the big-bang over again, or it doesn't happent that way at all. Perhaps you think that the universe will never collapse and that time will span forever. Now ponder forever.
Personally I think the end of time is when all matter contracts to a single point in space due to the fact that all objects are drawn to all other objects. eventually it would seem that all atoms in the entire universe would converge onto a single point. it would be spectaculous
Religiously the end of time is the Apocolypse? Obviosly I'm not into Religion near as much as I am into science.
So I'd like to ask you all to ponder that which is the end of existence, or the new begining of it. So tell me, how is it withing your Ideaology that the universe ends.
I think there should be some simple ground rules here:
1. No telling anyone that their opinion for the end of the universe is wrong, becuase how are you going to prove it?
2. No Correcting another persons physics or religious dogma, even if that is really wrong.
3. No saying something like "I think the end of time will be like in the bible." if thats how you think it will be, then please enlighten me as to how that comes to pass, since I've never read the bible, or any other religious text for that matter.
4. Yes I am going to hell, don't bother telling me to read one of them.
It depends on the shape and mass of the universe. I figure it will repeat a big bang but it could just expand forever. I will never know.

I don't believe in either concept you mention of the end of time. In fact, I don't believe an end of time is possible. I think the physical universe is a creation of spiritual beings by common agreement. Time is nothing more than the movement of things in that universe, and time itself is based on nothing but our common agreement.
I think the end of time as proposed by materialistic science is nothing more than an abstract theory. I think the end of time as detailed by the Apocolypse is nothing more than a way to control the human mind through fear.
I hope that didn't break the ground rules. ;)
Fuck Rule 2. This is a debate forum.
A universe built by committee composed of all-powerful corporate-like rulers. Reminds me of the Greek gods.

no one has broken ground rules yet. see Maybe eventually we will agree on what the nature of time is, and therefore find meaning to its end.
In the physical universe time moves in only one direction. I assume it is forward. :D
Time is a part of the most basic equations that explain the universe. From Newton to Einstein all equations evolving distance include time.
The universe expands (distances increase) at a rate no greater than the speed of light - often much slower. At the atomic level distances may actually be coming closer. Time overall could just cancel out as the universe expands as it relates to distance. It still must go in a forward direction from any fixed frame of reference in the physical world.
If the universe were going to contract and blowup again I would say that is akin to resetting the clock. ;)
As for spirits/gods they amount to less than stardust and I doubt they are affected by gravity [feet not on solidly the ground :D].

Time in and of itself will never end - how could it? However the end of time as we know it as walking and talking people could end and probably will. I suspect that would occur due to mankind rather than some cosmic collision.
Ever heard that line "your time will come"?
At the very least if mankind is destroyed by a comet (it would have if the comet that hit Jupiter hit us) then time, as we know it would end. So would the varied and different beliefs in god and therefore all gods. So as an atheist I want all you of different beliefs to pray for protection from annihilation - hopefully one of you will get it right. I as a scientific person will work towards gaining knowledge so we can confront any threat to humanity.

What I believe will be the end of time is when we cease to exist as humans beings. I believe the only one who will decide when we will no longer walk this earth is God himself. The Apocolypse is only a part of how this whole process will begin.
If you have read the series Left Behind (11 books) by Dr. Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, the way the world as we know it will end is spelled out in this fictional stroy, which is based on the book of Revelations in the bible.
I'm not saying this planet will never be hit by a asteroid, but I don't feel that all of man kind will end because of it. There will be mass devastation for sure, but that will be only a part of the events that will come.
One does not need to read an old book to see the likely furure. Just look at the moon - covered with hits from space rocks.
I doubt that god spent his idle time throwing rocks at it for billions of years. ;)
The comet that hit Jupitor - just years ago - would have ended mans existance if it hit the earth.

I'm sure God did not spend his iddle time throwing rocks at the moon. What goes on in the universe are things that were meant to happen as part of cycle of its exsitience.
I suspect god does not do much of anything. Guess parting the red sea and burning some bush's wore him out for at least 2000 years. ;)
