An astonishing 20,000 Canadians declared themselves to be followers of the religion of Jedi, the guardians of peace and justice in the Star Wars flicks, Statistics Canada reported yesterday in the latest -- and final -- data to come from the 2001 census.

In the United Kingdom, for example, there are more Jedis than Jews. Nearly 400,000 people identified themselves as Jedi in the 2001 census. Only 260,000 said they were Jewish.

I am of the Dark Side....bomb, if you have never met some of the people on the net who call themselves Jedi, I'd be careful.

What's the big deal? Are those figures down from the previous census?

20,000 isn't all that many really. It's not even half of all the people in Canada, is it? ;)

Astonishing would indicate that it is an increase...

And what is the big deal?

That a fictional religious order could begin to outnumber members of one of the oldest faiths in history.

Joking or not.
