USA Today is taking a vote on whether the words "Under God" should be removed from the pledge of allegiance. You can vote by going to the following website.

To me, it makes no difference if -Under God- is in the pledge or not. It was not there before the mid-50s so if it's taken back out, so what? We pledge allegiance to the flag of our country.. PERIOD! - not to every thought that every citizen, lawmaker, or judge has.

So dear girl.... how did you vote on the issue? So far there's over 2.7 million votes, 27% or so of them YES (remove it).
No wonder bob hasn't been here much. He's been on the USAToday site checkin' that "YES" box over and over.
How about one divided nation mostly under god....
Now I know why they beat up your friend.

I say somebody kills him before he gets to be 21. ;)
Hey Casper (the friendly "white" ghost) I do not believe in you. You are just a muppit. ;)

I think the phrase should be taken out. Everytime I hear it I am deeply offended- so therefore, I 'm going to dedicate the next 5 years of my life to make a federal case out of it to prevent everyone else from saying 'under God'. I think that I will even lie and say that my christian son is really an atheist and is traumatized by hearing the word 'God'.

How can it possibly OFFEND you? I don't understand what the big woo hoo (or boo-hoo is more acurate) is all about!

Oh, its highly offensive- the only thing more offensive would be allowing kids to say prayers in school. Why interject superstitious dogma into our enlightened culture?

So smartass tell me did it "offend" you as a child? Did you even KNOW what it ment...What age did you REALLY realize what it was you were even reciting?

Doesn't offend me one way or the other. I was just trying to "hint" that P. Willi was completely tongue-in-cheek. He's making fun of the idiot that's bringing suit to get rid of "UG". You're answering him like he's serious.

:p
It's a worthy topic, I really didn't think about the fact that as a child reciting the pledge, I didn't KNOW what the hell I was doing it for (brainwashing me to be pro american) and I vaugely remember praying in class...I didn't pray I just sat there waiting for it to be over...I at age 4 could have cared less...so the argument isn't really a issue of the childs preferance...it is of the parents choosing...thats all....and you can clown me all you want

Its interesting that schools in general are portrayed as Godless and supporting atheistic views by conservatives (i.e., Rush) when many if not most schools want to say UG and many want to say prayers at school. Its just that a few parents, the ACLU, and liberal judges won't let them. We just had our first staff meeting- we said the Pledge with UG (oh my) and then said a prayer- we will continue doing this until some malcontent trouble maker contacts the ACLU.

I suppose that it is ofensive in some way to some people...and we are structured to seperate church and state...I just don't see what the big UG deal is...

I don't either- so just leave it as it is. The separation of church and state is a fairly new idea that was read ino the constitution by an activist judge in the 1960's (might have been the 70's). (Sort of like abortion being a free speech issue).
