View Full Version : Hauntings? You want hauntings?

I live in a former plantation home that was built in 1846 here in the south. Need I say more? I don't know what causes the things that happen here but I know that very odd things happen frequently. Even our dog knows it. She refuses to enter our kitchen-at all! Doors open and slam. We have definite cold spots, not drafty cool spots but extremely cold spots. I usually don't even talk about it because of the giggling and the stares of others who seem to be thinking, "She's a nut case." Just thought I would mention it here after I saw the post in which someone suggested the word 'hauntings'.

Bob,Bob,Bob...you would think that being an alien and here to observe (or are you taking over the world one forum at a time?) you of all the alien's would have a more open mind to things ;) while i haven't had doors slam or cold spots i have had a few very interesting things happen to me and my honey. (please excuse the not capitalizing as my shift key isn't responding all the time) During the month before my Mom passed away, my husband and I sat on the porch and could see into my mom's room, and on serval occaions saw the shawdow of a man pacing in front of her bed, the closer it got to the day of her death the more frequntly we saw him. Don't know who it was but it didn't scare us, you know no goosebumps or nothing the interesting thing I thought was that my mom didn't know he was there, I asked her (she was on a lot of morphine you'd think she'd seen SOMETHING but she didn't) and all she asked me was if I knew who it was. The closest thing i have ever come to in the haunted houses was a old hunting lodge we rented and i would see (out of the corner of my eye on occasion) was a guy dressed in a red flannel shirt and bule jeans. I prolly wouldn't have been to aware of it except I was talking to a freind and I followed her into another room yakin away and when I got there she wasn't in the room, she came in behind me and asked me if I had followed 'him" and said she too had seen him before. weird but not spooky, i think if doors slammed on me it would scare me a little.

And PLEASE don't not talk about things out of the ordinary here, as i don't want to be the only one being laughed at and and accused of being a "nutcase". have you done any research on your house to figure out whom might be "hanging around" and why? I always wondered why most don't hang around and a few do.

Ok the lodge's name was The Golden Arrow Ranch, off of ol' hwy 40 in Gold Run California...that would be 30 miles from Auburn California going west and about 60 miles from Truckee headed east (on Interstate 80) Get off at the Gold Run exit turn south then west onto Magra Road follow it up to the REALLY LARGE DRIVE WAY that has the garbage cans and A GATE go up the drive way and you will end up at the Golden Arrow Ranch, the BIG HOUSE is the old hunting Lodge. In it resides a "ghost" that allways wears red, bule ,green plad flannel shirt and blue jeans...he never says any thing just walks from room to room...no one ever"sees" him directly its allways a out of the corner of your eye thing. I saw him once so did my friend Kathy...

if it is the same place it has been documented as a major magnetic field known to draw UFO's into the area. Am I right ?

We have done quite a bit of research on the house simply for the sake of learning about the history of our home. It was owned by one family from the time it was built until the early 1980's. A man bought it from that family but only kept it for a few months. We bought it from him. The dining room is one of the rooms where odd things have happened. Our dog would sometimes refuse to go into that room and would stand at the doorway, looking into the room and growl, showing her teeth. The hair on her back would be up-the way a dog acts when confronting another dog. She would show her teeth and jump back and, at times, bark at the room. For the last three years of her lif she would not, and I mean NOT set foot in our kitchen. Nothing could coax her into that room. And if we tried to make her go in, she would fight us. Friends who came to visit would claim, "Oh, I'll bet I can get her to go in the kitchen." and they would put meat on the floor to attempt to lure her in. Nothing worked. We did learn that the dining room, at one time, was used for a sickroom for the original owner and it was in this room that he died. Many visitors have been here and heard certain doors open and then slam shut. Only once has anything been observed. My sister was visiting and as she sat in the living room, she glanced into the dining room. As I was talking to her, she turned very, very pale and made a sound that led me to believe that she was about to throw up. She jumped up and ran outside. I followed her, still thinking she had an upset stomach. She was crying when I reached her. She said that she wished she hadn't seen what she had seen. It took me about half an hour to convince her to tell me what she thought she had seen. The only way she could describe it was to say that a 'form', filmy and dark, had moved slowly across the dining room. She said that what was so frightening was that, as it moved, objects behind it , such as the buffet and sideboard, could not be seen through it. She said she could not say what it was but that it terrified her. She is a very down-to earth person and does not like the fact that she saw this. She doesn't like to talk about it. I don't know what she saw-I just know that she must have seen something.
We also had four panes in a set of French doors to shatter and throw glass shards all the way across the 15 foot wide foyer and into the room across the foyer. These were not four connecting panes but four panes in different areas on the doors. We could find no explanation for that. What is it? I don't know. But I am open to any reasonable explanation.

1) Shave your dog bald and wash thoroughly

2) Baste with plenty of butter

3) Wrap with aluminum foil

4) He should be protected quite well now, but if he cooks in the sun, you can try BBQ'd dog for supper.

1) Shave your dog bald and wash thoroughly
-- this did keep the hair from rising on his back

2) Baste with plenty of butter
-- have you priced butter lately? I used yellow Crisco

3) Wrap with aluminum foil
-- whew! just enough left after making hats for the family

4) He should be protected quite well now, but if he cooks in the sun, you can try BBQ'd dog for supper
-- I think I'll wait for Kathaksung's recipe book before I try mutt chops

Wow! So the entity in your house really scared your sister, this is hard to ask right...when my husband and I witnessed what ever we saw I actully was comforted knowing she wasn't alone, and I felt no bad vibes just a sense of impatetice..do you know if your sister sensed something bad? You don't seem to be frightened by him/her just surprized. A real haunted house that is so cool...

How about posting your dog burrito recipes.

Here is mine:
1 part (beef, pork, chicken, or for our Asian friend - dog meat) - cut into 1/2 in chunks after grilling 1/2 in slab.
1 part cheese
1/4 part green chille
1/8 part onion

Wrap in flour tortilla with any salt or hotsauce and microwave for 2 min.

AH, their tastey.

Yes, whatever my sister saw really frightened her badly. I, myself, have not felt anything negative in the house although some of the events are unnerving. From some of the replies I just read, I see that I have good reason to be cautious talking about this subject. It doesn't matter to me whether or not someone believes in possible hauntings. I simply know what happens here in this house. Some skeptical visitors have been very frightened after they experienced some of the events. I don't find it terribly frightening but I'll admit, at times, I do feel uneasy. If I ever see what my sister saw, I may feel differently-who knows? I have also found out that some of the people who claim to be die hard skeptics are the very ones who frighten the easiest. As I stated in my first post, I don't know what it is that causes these occurrences. I just know they happen and we haven't been able to explain them in any logical way. It would be interesting to know the source of it all.

I'd like to share a little dish I normally share with close friends, but I am sure it's ok if you guys try to replicate it
(quartzhunter-- replicate means to copy)
I call it Stray Dog Steak, but young cats are very good too! It's Grilled, smothered with green chile, topped with cheddar cheese and sautéed mushrooms (hehehee). Served with a flour tortilla.
Here's what you will need in advance,
First make sure you have a dog of atleast 25lbs
*cats can be used but you will need to have atleast 2 @ 9 lbs.
about 1oz of your favorite dried or fresh mushrooom (hehehe)
about 1lb cheese (grated)
garlic
salt
pepper
Sliced mushrooms(heheheheee)
Some chiles to saute'e with mushrooms(hehehehe)
And of course a few tortillias warmed.
And last but not least a few friends :D

So here's how ya do it------
1- Dehair the dog/cats, boiling works great.not necessary if you like hairballs.
2 - Cut meat into thin strips and with dog meat try to trim most of the fat.
3 - Preheat two pans and add 1/8 cup of oil or butter to each pan
4 - Add meat strips and garlic to one pan and cook until tender.
5 - Add your favorite (hehee) mushrooms to the second pan and saute'e them.
6 - Lay a warmed tortillia flat and and the grilled'meat' a few spoons of the mushrooms (hehehe)
7- Cover the dish with your favorite cheese, and maybe more shrooms (hehehee)
8- wrap the 'meat' like you would a normal burrito maybe add your favorite salsa too !!
You & your guests can now enjoy one of my personal favorites !
Enjoy :D

Sorry I didn't realize you were a girl too! So glad to have company. Although I have to admit hanging around these guys is fun, cuz they are all so silly. I still think its cool to have a house with a past. I had at one time checked out buying houses out in your area because the cost of the land and houses was so much less than out here...and a plantation house (remember I'm thinkin' Tara/gone with the wind and of course Mr. Butler type houses) they needed a lot of restoring and I didn't think I could ever pull it off. Keep me posted on your "visitor" I think its fasicanting...And I do believe in it, I'm not worried about being to open minded I like the sound of the wind. What do you think about ufo's?

WJ; Yeppers thats the place, in beautiful green Oregon! We are transplants...Rock huntin',Gold pannin',Crystal Collectin' Atv ridin' Transplants!

We were fortunate. The house had been renovated before we bought it. The man from whom we bought it spent a lot of money on it and only kept it a short time before he sold it to us and he was so desperate to sell it, we got an excellent deal on it.

Geez..I am surprised Dave has not told any of you about our old house.

Our mother died just over 13 years ago. She had battled cancer for just over 5 years. I had just gotten hom from the military then end of January. She went into the hospital February 14th. I managed to give her one last rose for Valentines Day and, upon leaving her for the night, left saying "Take it easy, mom." She replied "I will." The next morning she died.
it was about a year later and Dave and Dad were sitting in the kitchen when my dad suddenly turned around. He told Dave that he felt a hand on his shoulder. Dave said he had just turned white.
Dave also had an experience in my old room in the basement. He and his girlfriend (now wife) were alseep. One ofthe 2 cats was in the room, the other was in the other room going nuts trying to get in. Dave finally gets up and opens the door. Bart (the cat) jumped into his arms and both cats stared at one point in space and followed it into the room and then out. Dad went on to sell the house nad it has been sold at least 3 other times since.

I have also had the pleasure of staying at the Fort San convention Centre in For Qu'appelle. It was an old tuberculoisis sanitarium and is reported to be haunted. I was there with the karate club I am in. My instructor told of an incident he had with a door he would find open or closed through the night...(his own room door that was looked from the inside).
I, unfortunately, never witnessed anything even though our rooms were directly above what used to be the morgue.

Actually, I was gonna mention the things in the house, I was in the process of typing it out a while back, but got busy at work and never submitted it... never got around to it again.

That night with the cats was pretty strange... Bart, the one that jumped into my arms was a real loner. You could never hold him for more than 10 seconds at a time and he would never come up to your lap on his own. He held on tight and stared at a certain part of the room. My second cat which is extremely friendly, scared of no one, was focused on the same spot. It was just weird.

do you believe in the super natural, hauntings, esp, ufo's
the general stuff these threads are about.

HAL9000
08-15-2002, 11:35 AM
Ahh...OK

Supernatural, hauntings, etc, Yes.

UFO's.... hmmmm... tough call. I do believe there is life elsewhere in this universe. There has to be. We're not even a speck of dust in comparison to the Milky Way galaxy and there are billions of galaxies out there. Are they visiting us... who knows? In one way, you gotta wonder why would they come here, but at the same time, if we're the closest life that they have discovered, why wouldn't they come here.

I don't believe in this crop circle shit that it's aliens. They travel billions of miles and there best attempt at making contact to show us they exist is to stomp down some wheat? What the fuck's with that?

ESP? Again, I'm rather mixed. I do believe that I have experienced premenissions and deja-vu, and actually a combination of the two. It hasn't happened often, but it has happened and been quite freaky.

Out of body experience... another interesting one. I did a lot of reading about it to try and experience it. While I don't believe I have actually experienced it at this time, it seems now that my dreams are way more graphic than they have ever been and I know when I am in a dream state and can usually manipulate the dream to some extent. By more graphic, I mean you can ask me to describe something I saw in real life and I'm pretty rusty with the details, but ask me to describe the dream, I can tell you about the colours, positions of objects, textures, warmth or chill, sense of touch or discomfort. It seems that I know every detail that can be known about any dream sequence that I remember when I wake up. Lately, the dreams have been rather strange ever since I gave up drinking Pepsi to kick the caffine habit (Quit around March/April).

I also believe in "shadow people". These, if you have ever experienced, are the dark shadows that you see out of the corner of your eye, but when you go to investigate, find nothing. My experience with that is when I was in low income housing. I never mentioned it to my wife because stuff like that tends to freak her out a bit. I would be sitting a the computer late at night (although I have seen it while alone in the house during the day) and in the corner of my eye see sombody (just a shadow in my field of view) pass the door going into the bathroom. When I would go to check out who was up, both my daughter and wife were fast asleep. When we moved, I told my wife about it. She said she would see the same shadows, but would also see them in the basement. When our daughter was young, she would always be talking to somebody in her bedroom even though she was alone. I even remember hearing her ask once "are you dead?" She doesn't remember doing this as she was only 2-3 at the time.

Quartzhunter
08-15-2002, 11:47 AM
Crap circles I'm with you on that one! Its that sort of thing that makes other subjects seem so unrealistic.

I believe in UFO's partly because of my experience and partly because the universe is a big place to big for just our little speicies to be the only ones...I think they hide because we are volitale(?) We aren't "ready"for them to much fear here me thinks...

ESP oh Yes! There is so much about the human brain we just don't understand, if a dog can "sense" things I have no doubt that humans can, I think we don't "open" our minds to it, we have been told from babies that we can't so we don't.

Out Of Body, My Mom had no reason to lie to me, and she didn't tell me until I was old enough to be able to grasp the concept and disscuss it...she also warned me about talking about it because most people would just lable me weird.

And you know I see the shadow people, the nite I heard my mom was the first time I ever heard one, sure did startle me!

Quartzhunter

I am surprized that it is so hard for people to admit it when they have a experience with any of the above topics, and spend alot of time making fun of it, my husband is a prime exsample even though he experienced it for himself, and talked to me about it he still makes fun of the whole thing and trys to just laugh it off.

UFO's - Well, a reserved yes. Mathematically speaking, you have to be pretty blissful to think we are the only ones in the universe. Certainly, then, somebody out there has unlocked, or come close to unlocking, secrets of interstellar travel via faster-that-light or equivalent-to-faster-than-light travel.

Crop circles - two guys have already claimed responsibility for, and recreated how they did it, all the crop circles and traveling all over the place to do it.
BUT, explain expenses to travel all those distances and time frames. Explanation would be a group.

Shadow people, I classify under the non-entities. So, there is another yes. I have not experienced what Hal has, but there are always those things out of the corner of your eye.

Yeah, no kidding, eh??
I thought for sure somebody else would have an opinion about this as well. But, since it is sucha sketchy topic, where do you take a stand without fear of being labelled "misguided" or any of the other popular terms. ;)

I think it is all directly attributal to a closed mind. Be it from ignorance or being unwilling to right to a concious effort to not want to.
With that in mind, imagine what else one would experience if you knew what else to open your mind to?

Quartzhunter

Yeah, but some of the "Great Minds" around here would need a crow bar to open them up!

hey, i missed this thread, but i believe in that stuff too. ghosts and all those "non-entities." i think i mentioned that in another thread.

also, with ufo's, i believe there is intelligent life out there (i would hope so! it's a big universe, and if we're the only intelligent life, that's not saying that much... i mean, just look at bomb! where's the intelligence? :D) i mentioned my experience with lost time. though i don't know why it happened, it did.

homer15

quartz, you responded directly to it!

it's from this thread.

quote:

"actually, just this past weekend my girlfriend and i were going up to this ranch way the hell out in the middle of nowhere. we were driving down this hella windy backroad past redbluff (if anyone here is from california)... it was like 10:00 at night, and we were meeting her parents at the ranch for camping. all of the sudden my brand spankin new dodge dakota just dies on me, and the headlights go out. of course i get pissed off, because it's a brand new truck, and i looked at my phone to see if i had a signal (also notice the time was 10:07). i pop the hood to go look under it and as i'm looking at the engine, the headlights come back on... so i figured i'd try to start it up again... started fine. the clock was set back to 12 again, like the battery had been unplugged or something, so i looked at my phone to reset the clock and my phone says the time is now 10:42. i would think the overall time i was out of the car was maybe 7 minutes. needless to say that creeped me the fuck out (especially since on the way up i was telling my girl about "fire in the sky" which she has never seen).

also, i've got a lot of stories about hauntings... i used to live in a haunted townhouse a while back, and my house now has all kinds of weird shit that happens too (stacking books, pictures moving off the wall and into various bedrooms, and whenever we develop film, there is always at least one weird ass picture taking from some strange angle like our 17 foot vaulted ceiling or something or that has this little figure in it)."
